Pico de Gallo

Pico de Gallo (Fresh Mexican Salsa)

Pico de gallo is a fresh, chunky salsa made with raw ingredients—bright, tangy, and perfect for tacos, chips, grilled meats, or bowls.

Ingredients (Serves 4–6)

  • 4 ripe tomatoes (diced small)
  • ½ white or red onion (finely chopped)
  • 1–2 jalapeños (finely chopped, adjust heat)
  • ½ cup fresh cilantro (chopped)
  • Juice of 1–2 limes (fresh)
  • ½ tsp salt (to taste)
  • Optional: pinch of black pepper

Instructions

1. Prep everything

  • Dice tomatoes into small, even cubes
  • Finely chop onion and jalapeños
  • Chop cilantro (remove thick stems)
  • Add all ingredients to a bowl
  • Pour in fresh lime juice
  • Sprinkle salt

3. Rest (important step)

  • Let sit for 10–20 minutes
This helps flavors blend and juices develop

Serve

  • With tortilla chips
  • On tacos, burritos, or quesadillas
  • With grilled chicken, fish, or steak
  • As a fresh topping for rice bowls

Tips for best pico de gallo

  • Use ripe but firm tomatoes (not mushy)
  • Always use fresh lime juice
  • Chop evenly for balanced bites
  • Add salt gradually and taste
  • For less heat, remove jalapeño seeds
